It depends on whether you have natural teeth or implants. A Clinical Dental Technician can provide full dentures directly for people with neither. Treatment for people with teeth or implants needs a dentist’s prescription.

What is the difference between a dentist and a Clinical Dental Technician?
A dentist assesses dental health and provides dental treatment within their role. A Clinical Dental Technician has a patient-facing role in denture care as well as technical training in making dentures.
At Swindon Denture Clinic, Matthew Haines is our Clinical Dental Technician. You can talk to him about the dentures you need, their appearance and the concerns you have about your current set.
What if I have no teeth and no implants?
The General Dental Council allows Clinical Dental Technicians to provide and maintain full dentures directly for patients with no teeth and no implants.
That does not mean every concern can be dealt with during a denture appointment. Tell the clinic about any mouth problem when you enquire; the team will explain if a dentist needs to be involved.
What if I still have teeth or implants?
A dentist must be involved in the assessment and prescription for your treatment. Contact us to ask what you need before starting. If you already have a dentist or have recently had an assessment, tell us.
Do not worry about getting the terminology right. “I still have some lower teeth” or “I have implants supporting my denture” is helpful information for the team.
What should I bring to a first conversation?
- Your current dentures, if you wear them.
- The main problem you want help with.
- Questions about appearance, fit, appointments or cost.
- Details of your dentist and any relevant treatment paperwork you already have.
A short note can help if you tend to forget your questions once you arrive. For example: “I want to understand my choices before replacing this set.”
How do I arrange a consultation?
Use our booking page to view available appointment requests, or ask for a callback. Matthew’s consultation hours are Monday and Tuesday, 10am–4pm, subject to availability.
Wait for confirmation before coming in. An online request is not a confirmed appointment. We will contact you about the arrangements at 5 Beechcroft Road, Swindon, SN2 7RD.
There is no need to decide on treatment before that conversation. Ask what would happen next, what is included and how your individual quote will be explained.
